Meet Siobhan!

Follow this page to keep an eye on what Siobhan is doing. She is changing her life!
This blog will be about her successes and her struggles, her milestones and most importantly her overall journey to living a healthier life!

Hi! My name is Siobhan.
I'm 24 years old and a mother of two - My daughter Charlie (2yrs) and my step daughter Tori (13yrs).
I Got married in December 2016 to my partner Kurt and I currently live in Lower Hutt. I work full time in a demanding role and in my spare time I love to spend time with my family.
No caption needed. What a brave mum!
Siobhan has learned how to choose better products!
7 Weeks into her programme and she's doing well!
I started my journey on the 5th of January by myself. I was always the classic "yoyo" dieter - try something for a week, fail and give up!
I had been married for a month and should have been at the most happiest of my life, I had my beautiful children and amazing husband and great job but I was not happy. After a lot of self reflection I realized that it was me that was the problem. I didn't feel comfortable in my own skin  and decided it was time to change or I was going to end up in a very early grave and missing out on the joys of life.

I decided to come public with my journey via facebook to hold myself accountable for my health.

I started at 132kgs! I couldn't believe when i stood on the scales and saw these numbers, this was biggest I have ever been. Small walks left me tired and running around after Charlie was mission impossible.
I started by lacing up the sneakers and going for walks every day. A couple weeks into it, very unsure on what to do with food knowing this was me making a lifestyle change for good, still a bit lost until the lovely Vicky  gave me the support I needed with food.

I now eat way better and find the changes no longer a struggle, feeling lighter and losing cms.
I can now run around with my daughter and starting to like myself again.

I still have a long way to go but can finally see a light at the end of what has been a very dark tunnel.

On this page, I will keep you posted with my Journey so that you can see it's never too late to make a change!

Looking after myself has always been a foreign idea to me, sounds rather ridiculous like why would you not care for yourself? But busy life is an easy distraction, busy mum life and working has put looking after myself to the side.
When I started my journey earlier this year this is what I wanted to focus on to make a better me.
It has now been 3 months since I started my journey and an amazing journey it has been. I love seeing the weight come off and the excitement when I put on my old work pants, that were so tight that I had broken a button in them,  now fall off as too big. I am even starting to feel better and confident within my own skin.
Don't get me wrong this journey is not easy, I do have days where I would love to just go have that massive piece of caramel slice and scoff it down.. and instead fight in my head about why I should and shouldn't.
I did a bit of reflection this week to where I have come and am going and have started to notice a few bad habits coming in. Not preparing meals for lunch so not staying on complete track with meal plan in middle of the day or running out the door with out having breakfast.
Reflecting on this has been crucial for me as these changes I am making I am wanting to be for life long not just another "diet". I have started making lunches night before and getting up earlier in the morning to ensure I am getting breakfast. Seems so silly and easy things to do but when they are missed can really set me back.
Remembering to take care of you so you can then take care of your love ones, is a motto my Mum has told me for a long time but I am only just starting to understand. - Siobhan.

Last weekend I completed my first ever 10km event at the Great Forest Events in Waiterere, I was only walking but I absolutely loved it! I never saw myself being able to do these events let alone actually enjoy it - and start looking for the next one!
I completed this with my amazing Mum and Aunty, who have really showed me that having great people and support you can do anything you set your mind to.
During the event my legs hurt and I was super tired but every time I hit the marker signs to show how far I had got I did a little dance and kept going. Finished the event in 1 hour 49 mins, walking at a pace of 10.57 a km, on such high for accomplishing the distance and with very wobbly legs!
Bring on next event....!  - Siobhan

8th May 2017:

During my journey I feel that it is important to share the great times and the bad ones as we are all human and things are not always going to be perfect. I used to have a bad moment and decide "right time to start again on Monday" or "can't do this I'm done" but I have changed this mindset....
I'm on a journey not a diet. Things don't just stop and start or quit.

Lately I have had a lot of personal drama happening which had left me exhausted and not focused on looking after myself properly. Mentally or physically. I had reverted back to some of my old habits of sweets and bit of fizzy. Relaxed gym workouts, my fit bit stayed in my bag uncharged.
I had a great session with Vicky which helped remind me why I am doing this journey and also helped me talk through what was going on to find ways to get pass it all and back on track.
It's okay that it happened, now it's time to refocus and look for more healthier ways to get passed it next time.
Back at gym with workout plans and meal prepping to stay on track during the day.
For my mental health even had a day out for myself being pampered with new nails! - Siobhan

13th May 2017:

This week I completed a 20km walk in aide of raising funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter with other Westpac Managers. Never ever did I think I could ever accomplish such a walk or actually enjoy it!!! Don't get me wrong it was pouring down with rain the whole time and out in Wellington wind so was not easy at all! But the feeling when I had finished was AMAZING! Made me really realise that I had made a change in my life and it is working!!!!
Excited for the next challenge!!!
